Rathdrum is a wonderful community. Right in the heart of the award wining Lakeland School district. You will be pleased with the small town feel and the great education your kids will receive.
Rathdrum location is an extremely central location. 10-15 minutes to Post Falls, Coeur d Alene and about 20 minutes to the Spokane Valley area.
Rathdrum could be a self sufficient town for you in many ways. A couple of grocery stores, hardware stores. There are several reasonably priced restaurants in the area. O'Malleys Restaurant is a huge favorite with the locals. Chinese on Hwy 41 and a fairly full spectrum of fast food. McDonalds, Taco Bell and Dairy Queen. Nothing high end but decent family spots to have a good meal.
A couple of Dr offices, a local dentist and an urgent care for emergencies. Pharmacy in town so you don't have to travel to get your meds.
Rathdrum always has great community fun, concerts in the park in the summer. Always love the kids fishing derby in the park - They have a ball during that! They block the creek up a little and stock it well. Not sure who enjoys it more the kids or the parents. Usually a little farmers market in the park also during the summer. Rathdrum days in July small town fun! And always lots of participants.
Lots of hiking, biking and water sports opportunities within minutes of town. Twin lakes area includes an 18 hole golf course, fishing and boating. Lots of discussion of the coming hiking trail that is coming on Rathdrum Mountain. And there are also several local spots for accessing Inland paper Company land. You do need to purchase a permit but great spots to hike, fish, horse back ride, firewood, christmas tree cutting you name it they will let you access for a reasonable fee hundreds and thousands of acres. And of course you always have access to the National Forest Service land.
Rathdrum Weather is pretty typical North Idaho. We have 4 seasons! And we honestly do! One thing I would say about our weather though is as long as you are living in the trees you rarely have wind. There is a huge difference in the temp in winter if you count in the wind chill factor. So even though you may see the temperature being a couple of degrees colder than Post falls or Spokane depending on where you are at it may not feel as cold. So that is always something to keep in mind. You snow load is a little lighter on the eastern side and southern side. You will be getting a little more into the snow belt going towards Twin Lakes side of Rathdrum. Here is a good site for the overview of Rathdrums Climate.
Property is reasonably priced in Rathdrum and quite diverse. We have some nice newer communities coming in on the South East side of town. We also have a nice gated community around Radiant Lake with some lovely homes in the Mid 300k price range. Some starter home communities that also qualify for the zero down programs of Rural Development or the Idaho Housing programs. If your looking for your first home those are a great starter program. Contact me for a lender that offers those programs. Rural Properties variety of price ranges and options.
So if you are looking for a great community to call home. This is a family community. 4-H , boy scouts, girl scouts type of community. I can't say enough what a great community this is for families. Low crime rate the type of community your kids can run around in safely.
